Find the most appropriate parking spot for each driver.

Private vehicle penetration rate in urban area is rising at a higher rate than ever. Consequently, finding parking space has become drivers’ daily headache. This research aims to mitigate the problem through establishing an intelligent, strategy-proof navigation system between drivers and parking spaces. Adopting a distributed two-sided matching algorithm, the system matches the drivers to their most appropriate parking spaces based on their real-time locations and parking preference, and thus preventing multiple drivers from being guided to the same parking space. This research first builds a fully functional, performance optimized backend to implement the two-sided matching algorithm and then develops a native APP on the iOS platform. The APP will guide drivers to parking spaces according to their preference by considering their real-time position and traffic condition information.

Utilize resources.

Different from other parking navigation apps, Pika Park focuses street parking resources and covers 14,000+ meters in the New York City. It also prevents resources waste caused by cancellations of reservation through real-time matching and improves the parking space utilization significantly.

Save time.

Based on our simulation system which simulates a realistic environment including app-users and normal non-app users, Pika Park decreases the average cruising time by 59%, and the percentage of successful trips improves greatly.

Pika Park is based on our research project about an advanced parking navigation system for downtown parking, which won the “First Place Project” in Fall 2019 NYU Shanghai Undergraduate Research Competition.
